CSI Workshop

Engineers Ireland has developed an inspiring and innovative way to stimulate an interest in Engineering, Science and Mathematics: Forensic Science.

All students are fascinated by crime programmes such as CSI, Numbers, NCIS and Criminal Minds. Our Fingerprinting and Data Analysis workshop is designed to promote inquiry based learning; to allow students to apply and transfer knowledge and understanding from one situation to another with an emphasis on developing skills to manage information, solve problems and make decisions.

Fingerprinting and Data Analysis

Your students  will have to solve mathematical problems in a table quiz format; solutions will introduce them to a range of mathematical topics including the Fibonacci sequence and the golden number and their ‘magical’ influence on patterns found in the world around us and how they are used by the many forensic TV programmes to help to solve crimes.
Students will then take their own prints, and classify them by pattern types. A database of prints will then be made and students will be challenged to lift a print and match it to one stored in their database.
